Why My husband won’t marry another wife — Olu of Warri’s wife

Ivie Atuwatse III, the queen consort of Warri Kingdom and wife of Ogiame Atuwatse III, the 21st Olu of Warri, has explained why she believes her husband will not take another wife.

Speaking in a recent interview with BBC News Pidgin, Ivie said she takes great joy in seeing people celebrate the Olu’s achievements, personality and leadership.

“The thing wey I like about being married to His Majesty is that, all the fame or the popularity wey him get, na say get to see the world celebrate his genius, his swag also, cos me too I dey celebrate am,” she said.

The queen consort added that public recognition of her husband makes her even prouder.

“I dey extremely proud of am as a human being, and to see that they also appreciate am dey give me much joy,” she said.

However, Ivie acknowledged that being married to a monarch also comes with challenges, particularly because of the demands of his traditional responsibilities.

“Sometimes e dey busy and it can be hard to want to share my husband with all the many different duties that he has,” she said.

“And so, we are learning to navigate it because sometimes I just want him to myself.”

When asked if she would accept another wife should the Olu change his mind about polygamy, lvie dismissed the possibility.

She insisted that her husband was not going to change his position and described herself as more than enough for him.

“Firstly, His Majesty no go fit change him mind about polygamy. Make we just settle that one for there.

“Me alone, one me, I be like three women, so I dey alright for am,” she said.
