Nottingham Forest hold Liverpool at Anfield

Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday, with summer signing Víctor Muñoz scoring a stunning late equaliser on his first home appearance for the club.

The result means Liverpool remain without a Premier League win under new manager Andoni Iraola after following their opening-day draw at Newcastle United with another share of the points.

Nottingham Forest took the lead in the 24th minute through Dan Ndoye, who finished after combining with Morgan Gibbs-White following a long ball forward.

Liverpool thought they had levelled earlier in the first half when Florian Wirtz found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

The Reds eventually drew level on the hour mark as Alexander Isak turned in Cody Gakpo’s cross at the back post to make it 1-1.

However, Forest regained the advantage 10 minutes later when Gibbs-White converted from the penalty spot after Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson brought down Neco Williams.

Muñoz ensured Liverpool avoided defeat in the 82nd minute, spinning onto a pass from Wirtz before firing a powerful effort in off the underside of the crossbar.

The goal was the Spaniard’s first for Liverpool since his summer move from Osasuna, and it rescued a point for Iraola’s side in an entertaining contest.

Liverpool dominated possession but Forest created the higher expected-goals tally, 2.3 to Liverpool’s 1.61, underlining the threat posed by the visitors throughout the match.
