The family of veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has dismissed as false widespread social media claims that the 66-year-old Nollywood legend has died.
The false report gained traction on Tuesday after a Facebook user alleged that one of Ogogo’s daughters, Haleemah Taiwo, had announced his death following what the post described as rejections by multiple hospitals.
The user wrote, “Haleemah Taiwo just posted that her father, Mr. Hassan Taiwo, has passed away after being rejected by different hospitals. He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. May his soul rest. He’s finally gone.”
Reacting on Instagram, Ogogo’s daughter Lima Taiwo categorically denied the claim, urging the public to stop circulating unverified information.
“This is false!!!!!!! This is false!!!!! This is false!!!!! This is false!!! THIS IS FAKE. PLEASE STOP SPREADING FAKE NEWS,” she wrote.
The clarification came less than 24 hours after Lima and her sister Kira Taiwo made separate, tearful appeals for medical assistance for their father, who they disclosed is battling stage-four cancer.
In a video posted on Monday, Lima said Ogogo’s condition had deteriorated and alleged that some hospitals had declined to continue treating him, adding that the family was not seeking money but help accessing cancer treatment.
Kira, in another video, said the hospital treating Ogogo informed the family it could no longer administer chemotherapy.
“Hello everyone, I’m here for my daddy. He has cancer and is in stage 4.
“The hospital is saying that they cannot treat him again, like they can’t give him chemo again,” she said, appealing to specialists and facilities that could assist.
The sisters have asked anyone with credible medical leads to contact them directly as the family explores alternative treatment options.
