The Ondo State Government on Wednesday moved to correct circulating social‑media claims that a kidnapping had occurred at a school in Akure metropolis, describing the reports as false and misleading.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the government said there is “no record, report, or incident of kidnapping in any primary, secondary, or tertiary institution in Akure.”
“All schools in the state capital are safe, open, and conducting academic activities without disruption,” says Adeniyan.
It added that security agencies including the Nigeria Police Force, the Amotekun Corps and the Department of State Services have inspected school premises across the state capital and confirmed normalcy.
Authorities said they have maintained strict security protocols in collaboration with school officials and parents to protect pupils and students.
The statement urged members of the public, particularly parents and guardians, to “disregard the fake news and refrain from sharing unverified information that is capable of causing panic and anxiety.”
The government reiterated that the safety of children and teachers is a top priority for the Aiyedatiwa administration and encouraged anyone with genuine security concerns to report them directly to the nearest police or Amotekun station/post.
