Real Madrid opens formal talks with Manchester City for Rodri

Real Madrid has made their first formal approach to Manchester City for 30-year-old midfielder Rodri, with verbal club-to-club talks now underway after months of behind-the-scenes activity and a green light from president Florentino Pérez.

Rodri, fresh off winning the 2026 World Cup Golden Ball and entering the final year of his City contract has been a primary target for Real as the Spanish club continues a squad rebuild.

It was gathered that Manchester City have been quoted seeking up to €80 million for one of Europe’s most influential defensive midfielders, while Real are signalling a willingness to pay over €50 million, setting the stage for potentially intensive negotiations.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the advance, writing, “Real Madrid have approached Manchester City for Rodri for the first time. Negotiations have started with verbal discussions between clubs. Florentino Pérez has given approval to the deal after doors closed for months. Real indicate they are ready to spend over €50m.”
