Nigeria congratulates Carlos Vila Nova on re-election, pledges continued cooperation

Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has congratulated President Carlos Vila Nova on his re-election as leader of São Tomé and Príncipe and praising the peaceful conduct of the island nation’s vote.
In the release made available by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, Nigeria welcomed the demonstration of democratic values by São Toméans and reaffirmed its commitment to bilateral ties.
The statement said, “The people of São Tomé and Principe have once again demonstrated their commitment to democratic values and the rule of law through their peaceful participation in the electoral process. The Government of Nigeria commends the maturity, civic responsibility, and democratic spirit displayed by the people of So Tomé and Principe in exercising their democratic rights.”
The ministry also stressed Nigeria’s readiness to deepen cooperation with São Tomé and Príncipe across several areas, noting, “Nigeria reaffirms its solidarity with the Government and people of So Tomé and Principe and remains committed to strengthening the longstanding bonds of friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect that exist between our two countries.
“We look forward to continued collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including regional peace and security, economic development, and the strengthening of democratic institutions across the African continent.”
Concluding the message, Nigeria extended best wishes for the president’s next term, “The Government of Nigeria wishes His Excellency President Carlos Vila Nova a successful second term in office and extends its best wishes for the continued progress, stability, and prosperity of the people of São Tomé and Principe.”
