Real Madrid have reached an agreement in principle with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois on a new contract, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The club views the Belgian as a key player and one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
A formal deal is expected to be signed soon following the verbal agreement.
Courtois’ current contract runs until June 2027, but the new terms will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu for the 2027/28 season as well.
Courtois, who joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in 2018, has established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper and a central figure in the team’s recent successes.
He has played a major role in La Liga and Champions League campaigns, known for his commanding presence, shot-stopping ability, and leadership from the back.
The 34-year-old (as of 2026) recovered from a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in 2023 and returned to elite form, reinforcing his status as one of the world’s top keepers.
Real Madrid’s decision to secure his future reflects the club’s desire for continuity in goal amid ongoing squad planning.
