Real Madrid has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konaté on a four-year contract, sources say.

The transfer is understood to be dependent on the outcome of Real Madrid’s presidential election: the deal is expected to be formally signed once Florentino Pérez is re-elected as club president.

Insiders add that Konaté has placed lucrative offers from Saudi Arabian clubs on hold while pursuing the move to the Spanish capital.

Journalist Marcos Benito first reported the development, with additional sources corroborating that the 25-year-old defender has agreed personal terms and is prepared to complete the switch pending the club’s political confirmation.

The signing, if completed, would bolster Real Madrid’s defensive options ahead of next season.

Dailyeconomy had earlier reported that Konaté has confirmed he will leave Liverpool at the end of his contract.

Konaté in a post on X (formerly Twitter) last Sunday thanked the club, team-mates and supporters after five years at Anfield.
