Real Madrid announced on Tuesday that it had submitted a €150 million offer to Atlético de Madrid for the federative rights to Julián Álvarez.

This came after the club president, Florentino Pérez had promised a major attacking signing and vowed to reveal the player on Tuesday.

“Real Madrid C. F. announces that, following the meeting of the Board of Directors held today, it has made an offer of 150 million euros to Club Atlético de Madrid for the federative rights of the player Julián Álvarez,” the club revealed in a statement.

Atlético, however, declined the proposal.

“After reviewing and evaluating the offer, Club Atlético de Madrid has expressed its gratitude for the proposal, made within the framework of the good relations between both clubs, and has rejected it, referring to the player’s release clause,” the statement added.

Pérez had earlier promised fans a headline signing, saying he would send a “€150 million offer” and that he would unveil a “€150 Galáctico player.”

The president’s pledge raised expectations at the Bernabéu, but Atlético’s stance pointing to Álvarez’s release clause leaves the transfer unresolved.

Next steps hinge on whether Real Madrid will meet the release clause directly with the player or pursue alternative targets as the summer window unfolds.
