Ronaldo hints at final year in professional football

Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that the 2026–27 season could be his final campaign as a professional footballer, saying he wants to end his illustrious career with a “spectacular legacy.”

The 41-year-old Al-Nassr forward made the remarks in an interview with Vogue, weeks after confirming that the 2026 FIFA World Cup would be his last appearance at the tournament.

Portugal were eliminated by Spain in the round of 16, Dailyeconomy reports.

“This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy,” Ronaldo said.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who has spent 25 years at the highest level, acknowledged that retirement would leave a significant void in his life.

He said he had already planned several activities to keep him occupied after football.

“I have my future all mapped out. I have so many things to keep me busy that to tell you just one thing is hard,” he said.

Ronaldo added that he intends to travel more, play padel and enjoy life beyond the demands of professional football.

“Because football could leave a big hole, you have to fill your time in various ways, not just one.

“And also have more fun, travel more, watch and play padel, which I really like, and continue to enjoy what I’ve earned—what we’ve earned,” he said.

Reflecting on his career, Ronaldo said the journey had involved years of commitment and sacrifice.

“After all it’s been 25 years with a lot of sacrifice,” he added.
