Former Senate President Dr Bukola Saraki on Saturday announced Kale Kawu as the Kwara State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) consensus candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial election.
Saraki in a statement on Saturday said the decision came after “extensive consultations with stakeholders of the Kwara PDP and our leading gubernatorial aspirants,” adding that several aspirants voluntarily stepped down to promote party unity.
“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the other aspirants who, in the supreme interest of our party and state, have graciously stepped down to support this consensus,” he said in a statement.
The former Senate president described the unity shown by party members as “a spirit of unity and selflessness that will carry us to victory.”
He also wished party members, delegates and supporters “a successful, peaceful, and orderly outing at tomorrow’s gubernatorial primaries.”
The announcement positions Engr. Kale Kawu as the PDP’s standard-bearer going into the state contest, setting the stage for the party’s preparations and internal formalities ahead of the election.
