The head coach of Tottenham Hotspur, Ange Postecoglou, has openly discussed the challenges the club faced in winning trophies last season, emphasising that while he understands the supporters’ desire for silverware, his focus is on building a sustainable and competitive team.
In a recent interview, Postecoglou acknowledged the significance of ending Spurs’ trophy drought, which has persisted since 2008.
However, he acknowledged that he doesn’t usually win trophies in his first years as a team coach.
He stated, “I don’t usually win things, I always win things in my second year.
“I want to build a team that brings success and challenges for trophies every year, if in the following year, we struggle and fall back to mediocrity, it’s going to quickly get forgotten.”
Despite a promising start to the season, including an unbeaten run in the Premier League, Postecoglou has tempered expectations.
Postecoglou was appointed head coach of Tottenham Hotspur on a four-year contract on 6 June 2023. His appointment saw him become both the first Australian and the first person born in Greece to manage in the Premier League.
