The Actuarial Science Insurance Student Association (ASISA) of the University of Lagos (Unilag) hosted the fifth edition of its annual National Risk Compendium (NRC 5.0) on Friday, themed “Building Financial Security Without Borders,” with Tangerine Africa sponsoring the event. Organized by 400-Level students as a yearly tradition, the event featured two notable voices from Tangerine Africa.

Delivering a keynote address, Executive Director of Tangerine General, Mrs. Temitope Adewale (TTA), redefined financial security for the room. “Financial security is the freedom to dream without being constantly afraid that one unexpected event will destroy everything you have worked for,” she said, tying the idea directly to the role insurance plays in protecting people’s futures.

She went on to spotlight the “Tangerine Advantage,” walking students through the full spread of the group’s entities, Tangerine General Insurance, Tangerine Life, and its THT business, and what each stands for and bring to the society. Mrs.

Temitope Adewale (TTA) also addressed career readiness, noting that the industry’s future will demand more than core insurance scholars, as professionals from other fields are increasingly vital to solving its challenges.

“Your degree, or the fact that you are a graduate, will give you the ticket,” she said, “but your skills will open doors and keep you in workspaces.” She reassured students that Tangerine Africa makes room for them to begin that journey early, citing Internship and Graduate programs, Project Collaborations such as the recently concluded Blood Donor Drive with school departments and student executives, and Academic Support and Sponsorship, an area she said Tangerine is well known for.

Closing her session, Mrs. Temitope Adewale (TTA) left students with a personal story and a lasting piece of advice, recalling how her own path to becoming an Executive Director began with a call from a former classmate from her HND days who referred her for the role. “The future belongs to those who can connect,” she said, urging students to nurture relationships with classmates and schoolmates regardless of discipline, as such connections often open doors long after graduation.

Also speaking was Miss Moyosore Awopegba, Head of ESG, Strategy and Transformation at Tangerine Africa, who introduced students to the company’s range of products and encouraged them to reach out with ideas whenever they identify problems those products could solve, reinforcing Tangerine’s identity as a community-driven, problem-solving organization.

Miss Awopegba also served as one of the judges for the student product pitch session at the event. NRC 5.0 marks the fifth consecutive year ASISA has hosted the National Risk Compendium, an annual gathering that continues to bridge the gap between insurance students and industry leaders.
