In a remarkable display of compassion, community spirit, and commitment to saving lives, Tangerine Insurance has gone from providing access to comprehensive healthcare, providing cover for all that matters, and insuring life to now donating life. In this year’s edition of the Tangerine blood donor drive at the University of Lagos Sports Centre, another company record was set with over 120 pints of blood donated. The subsidiaries of the Tangerine Group (THT. Tangerine General, and Tangerine Life) are on a mission to ensure that every Nigerian has access to cover, when and where they need it.

The blood donation drive initiative is aimed at boosting voluntary blood donations and helping to bridge Nigeria’s estimated 73 per cent blood supply deficit. Organized in partnership with the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre (LASAEC), and other partners, this year’s event attracted hundreds of students, professionals, and other members of the public who came together for a common cause: saving lives.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Tangerine General Insurance, Mr. Mayowa Adeduro, emphasized the strong connection between insurance and blood donation. According to him, insurance exists to protect lives and properties against unforeseen circumstances, while blood donation directly contributes to preserving life when emergencies occur.

He noted that every pint of blood donated represents hope for accident victims, patients undergoing surgery, mothers during childbirth, and countless others whose survival depends on access to safe blood. Mr. Adeduro also expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for its continuous support in advancing initiatives that improve public health and emergency response systems.

Also addressing participants, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tangerine Life Insurance, Mr. Kehinde Borisade, described blood donation as a life-saving responsibility that cannot be left to government alone. He called for stronger collaboration between public institutions, private organizations, and individual citizens to create a sustainable culture of voluntary blood donation across the country.

Beyond the donation exercise itself, the event served as a powerful platform for health education and awareness. The ANISA Foundation delivered insightful presentations on the importance of knowing one’s blood group and blood type, highlighting how this knowledge can prove critical during medical emergencies.

Participants also benefited from free blood group and genotype testing, allowing many attendees to learn vital health information about themselves for the first time. Educational sessions on sickle cell disorder drew significant attention, with experts providing practical guidance on genotype compatibility, preventive measures, and strategies for living healthier lives as a person with sickle cell disease.

While the event focused on a serious national need, it also created an atmosphere of celebration, wellness, and community engagement. Participants enjoyed aerobics sessions led by i-Fitness, interactive games, dance competitions, entertainment, and networking opportunities throughout the day.

Adding to the excitement, cash prizes totaling ₦250,000 were awarded to winners of various activities. Attendees were also treated to refreshments and beverages generously supported by Rite Foods, creating an enjoyable experience that blended social impact with community fun.

The overwhelming turnout and enthusiastic participation underscored a growing awareness among Nigerians about the importance of voluntary blood donation. More importantly, the collection of over 120 pints of blood represents more than a statistic. It represents lives that may be saved, families that may remain whole, and patients who will receive a second chance when they need it most.

As the curtains closed on the 2026 edition of the Tangerine Blood Donor Drive, one message remained clear: giving blood is one of the simplest yet most powerful acts of humanity.

With its successful launch and impressive impact, Tangerine Insurance has demonstrated that corporate organizations can play a transformative role in addressing critical healthcare challenges. Building on this momentum, the company has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the campaign nationwide and reaching even more communities in the years ahead.

If this year is any indication, the future of the Tangerine Blood Donor Drive is bright, bigger, and poised to save many more lives across Nigeria.
