President Bola Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Nigeria’s Minister of Power, replacing Adebayo Adelabu who resigned to pursue elective office, the Presidency announced on Thursday.
The nomination was transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation in line with the Constitution, according to Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media.
In a statement, Olusegun confirmed, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
“The nomination has been transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation in accordance with the Constitution.
“The nomination follows the resignation of the former Minister, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down from office to pursue elective office.”
Tegbe, a first-class civil engineering graduate from Obafemi Awolowo University in 1988 and a chartered accountant (FCA), boasts over 30 years of experience in strategy, institutional reforms, and advisory services at KPMG.
He recently served as Director-General for the Nigeria-China strategic partnership.
The power ministry has faced scrutiny amid Nigeria’s ongoing electricity challenges, making the nomination a key move to stabilise the sector.
