Former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has publicly congratulated Deputy Governor Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat on his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
In a press release issued today, Ambode described the development as a “big moment for Lagos and the APC,” hailing Hamzat’s selection as a reward for his “years of loyalty, consistency, and service.”
“I remain committed to support the re-election of our Leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” Ambode stated.
“This is a call to stay united, disciplined, and focused on our collective progress. Our commitment to the party remains unwavering, fully aligned with the leadership and vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Now, the focus is simple: to secure victory and advance a more prosperous Lagos and Nigeria.”
The endorsement reaffirms Ambode’s loyalty to President Tinubu and urges party unity amid reports of Lagos APC elders consolidating behind Hamzat as a successor to incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
It also sets an ambitious target of delivering at least 3 million votes for the APC in Lagos while backing Tinubu’s re-election bid.
This move marks a significant alignment for Ambode, who faced his own re-nomination setback in 2019, signalling a unified front within the party ahead of the 2027 polls.
