Tinubu returns to Lagos after four-week European working vacation

President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Lagos on Tuesday evening, September 29, 2026, ending a roughly four-week working vacation in Europe. His aircraft touched down at the presidential wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 6:22 p.m., after departing Paris earlier in the day.
Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, D. Olusegun, announced the return on X with the hashtag #TheEagleHasLanded, sharing video footage of the president disembarking the presidential jet and being received by officials, military personnel, and supporters.
Tinubu left Abuja on August 30 for what the Presidency initially described as a three-week working vacation, Dailyeconomy reports.
He spent about a week in London before proceeding to Paris.
The stay was later extended by several days. During his time in France, he held a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and met business leaders including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group (with interests in Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group) and Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola.
He also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for a proposed deep seaport and Blue Marine Economic Zone in Ogun Waterside.
The president chose to return via Lagos rather than Abuja to participate in commemorative events honouring the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola.
On Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day, October 1, Tinubu is scheduled to attend the premiere of the documentary MKO at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos.
Directed by Ose Oyamendan, the film chronicles Abiola’s life, the annulled June 12, 1993, presidential election widely regarded as won by Abiola, his detention, and Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle.
It features archival footage and accounts from figures including former military leaders and Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka.
While in Lagos, Tinubu is also expected to hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify, before eventually returning to Abuja.
