Tinubu thanks Trump after joint operation kills ISIS leader

President Bola Tinubu has thanked United States President Donald Trump for his role in a joint Nigeria–US counterterrorism operation that eliminated ISIS senior leader Abu-Bilal al-Minuki in the Lake Chad Basin, saying the strike demonstrates effective bilateral cooperation against terrorism.
“Nigeria appreciates this partnership with the United States in advancing our shared security objectives. I extend my sincere gratitude to President Trump for his leadership and unwavering support in this effort.
“I commend the personnel involved on both sides for their professionalism and courage, and I look forward to more decisive strikes against all terrorist enclaves across the nation,” Tinubu wrote in a statement shared on social media.
The official statement praised the collaboration between Nigerian and US armed forces and signalled the administration’s intent to continue joint operations targeting groups such as the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
It was gathered that the operation dealt a significant blow to ISIS-linked militants operating around the Lake Chad region, a long-standing hotspot for insurgent activity.
