United States President Donald Trump has announced on Tuesday that Iran has informed him directly of a “state of collapse” within its regime, pleading for the United States to reopen the Strait of Hormuz “as soon as possible” amid leadership turmoil.
“Iran has just informed us that they are in a ‘State of Collapse.’ They want us to ‘Open the Hormuz Strait,’ as soon as possible, as they try to figure out their leadership situation (Which I believe they will be able to do!). Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump posted on social media.
The statement comes amid escalating tensions in the region. Since February 2026, U.S. and Israeli military operations have targeted Iranian assets, prompting Iranian missile retaliations.
A fragile ceasefire, mediated by Pakistan in early April, has held tenuously while U.S. forces work to clear mines and enforce a partial blockade on the strait—a vital chokepoint for roughly 20% of global oil trade.
The Strait of Hormuz remains partially disrupted, contributing to volatile oil prices and supply chain concerns worldwide.
