In a shocking incident, Jitu Munda, a resident of Dianali village in Odisha’s Keonjhar district, India exhumed his late sister Kalara Munda’s skeletal remains and carried them on his shoulder through busy rural streets to prove her death at a local bank branch.

Viral videos, show the elderly man walking openly through Malipasi’s market area—past shops and vehicles—with the partially wrapped bones visibly draped over him, leaving stunned locals in disbelief.

The clips captured the dramatic scene on Monday as Munda headed to the Maliposi branch of Odisha Grameen Bank in Patana block to withdraw around Rs 20,000 from Kalara’s account.

She had died on January 26.
Munda later told reporters he dug up the remains after bank staff allegedly demanded physical proof of death, frustrated by delays in processing his claim.

However, Odisha Grameen Bank issued a swift clarification, denying any such demand.

Officials stated Munda was inebriated, misunderstood standard procedures, and never faced requests for skeletal remains.

Once authorities provided death and legal heir certificates, the bank promptly settled the Rs 19,402 claim.
