Trump halts planned Iran strike, cites deal progress

United States President Donald Trump has claimed he has cancelled a planned attack on Iran after requests from Iran and other Middle Eastern countries, claiming the sides have moved closer to a deal that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end Iran’s nuclear threat.
In a statement on Sunday Trump said the pause was made “for the future benefit of the WORLD” and insisted Israel supports the commitment.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “The U.S.A. is locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran, at levels of Military Terror, Strength, and Power not seen since World War II.”
He added that despite the show of force, he agreed to hold off on the attack because “the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to.”
Trump said the emerging arrangement would include the “Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT” and an end to what he called Iran’s nuclear threat. He concluded by urging negotiators to “Get to work, everybody, and get it DONE.”
The announcement comes amid fragile U.S.-Iran ceasefire dynamics following earlier 2026 hostilities and a June memorandum of understanding, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining central to global oil flows and regional diplomacy.
