The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has highlighted a letter from United States President Donald J. Trump to President Bola Tinubu as international validation of the country’s advancements against terrorism and insurgency.
In a press release signed on Thursday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, described the letter as “a clear recognition of the significant strides Nigeria has made in combating terrorism and insurgency.”
Speaking during a live broadcast on National Television in Abuja, Ambassador Enikanolaiye stated, “The letter we just got is in recognition of the giant strides we have made in tackling the menace of terrorism and insurgency in our country. It is in recognition of the gallant efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces together with other security agencies handling the situation. This is not just a letter of commendation. It is a commitment to stand with Nigeria.”
The minister pointed to recent successes, including the rescue of young children in Oyo State, prosecutions of criminals and terrorists, and the disruption of bandit networks.
He emphasised enhanced collaboration with the U.S. in intelligence sharing, training, and capacity building.
Ambassador Enikanolaiye added that the letter reflects a “new era of partnership” focused on security concerns and aligns with Nigeria’s foreign policy priorities.
He noted expectations of more visible improvements in arrests, prosecutions, and overall security architecture in the coming months.
