Iranian state and allied sources reported that Tehran carried out surprise ballistic missile strikes against U.S. Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) launchers located at a desert military site in Kuwait, releasing video that shows large plumes of smoke and flames rising from a launch area.

The strikes are being framed by Iranian officials as retaliation for U.S. strikes on Iranian targets the previous day, which sources say used ATACMS launched from Kuwaiti territory.

This would mark the first ground‑to‑ground missile use tied to U.S. operations since the fragile ceasefire arrangements reached earlier this year and would suggest Kuwait had approved or permitted launches from its soil.

The attack follows weeks of tit‑for‑tat exchanges across the Gulf in 2026, in which Iran has repeatedly struck sites in countries hosting U.S. forces, including Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar, while the U.S. and its partners have carried out strikes on Iranian positions and vessels.
