Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has warned via state TV that its navy stands ready to inflict “new bitter defeats” on the US and Israel.
The statement coincides with reports of gunfire on at least two merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has repeatedly tightened control amid ongoing regional conflict.
“The Army of Islam is now bravely defending the waters, soil and flag to which it belongs. Just as its drones strike the American and Zionist criminals like lightning, its brave navy stands ready to make the enemies taste the bitterness of new defeats,” Khamenei said.
The waterway handles roughly 21 million barrels of oil daily, raising risks of supply disruptions and higher global energy prices from further escalation.
