Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has hailed the June 2026 Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the United States and Iran as evidence of Tehran’s diplomatic and strategic victory.
Ghalibaf called the deal “a declaration of America’s defeat.”
“The Islamabad agreement was not the result of pressure and coercion, but rather the result of the resistance and authority/strength of the brave Iranian nation,” Ghalibaf said, adding, “That is why, the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding became a declaration of America’s defeat.”
The interim MOU, mediated by Pakistan, seeks to pause recent hostilities in West Asia and includes provisions for a ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to commercial traffic, temporary waivers to facilitate Iranian oil exports, and conditional access to previously frozen Iranian funds.
Ghalibaf framed the pact as validation of Iran’s resistance strategy and insisted Tehran’s gains were won through strength and popular resolve rather than external coercion.
Ghalibaf also urged that regional security matters be left to countries within the region.
“Dialogue succeeds only when the other side accepts Iran’s rights without trying to impose its will,” he said, underscoring Tehran’s insistence that future talks respect its sovereign interests.
The Islamabad MOU represents a fragile step toward de-escalation after weeks of exchanges that threatened wider conflict across the Middle East.
