Video: Iwobi reveals Super Eagles’ struggles with flights, power, training facilities

Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi has shed light on the logistical challenges Nigerian players sometimes face while on national-team duty, including booking their own flights, dealing with hotel power outages and washing their kits.
Speaking in a podcast clip, Iwobi said the difficulties contrasted sharply with the strict and professional environment he experienced during his time with England’s youth national teams. Reports on the discussion also quoted him describing problems with flight arrangements, airport pickups, electricity and hotel access.
“I love playing for my country, but you have to pay for your own flight. You’re at the hotel and there’s no electricity. You wash your own kit, the pitch is only half grass. But, the food is amazing,” Iwobi said.
The Fulham midfielder reportedly explained that players are sometimes left to make their own way from the airport when transportation has not been properly arranged.
He also recalled situations in which power cuts at team hotels left players unable to charge their phones.
Iwobi contrasted Nigeria’s setup with England’s youth teams, where accommodation, access to players and training arrangements were governed by strict regulations.
Despite the shortcomings, the 30-year-old emphasised his affection for Nigeria and his pride in representing the country of his birth.
His comments have renewed discussions about the Nigeria Football Federation’s organisation and the conditions provided for the Super Eagles. Similar concerns over travel, accommodation and team logistics have previously emerged around the national side.
