Liverpool FC and the Premier League have paid tribute to former Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva on the one‑year anniversary of the fatal accident that claimed their lives.
Liverpool posted on Friday a commemorative statement and image saying, “Today, as every day, we remember Diogo Jota and André Silva, who tragically passed away one year ago.
“Through immeasurable loss and incalculable pain, the impact they made and the legacies they left behind – not only within the footballing world, but in the hearts and minds of so many around the world – has shone through over the last 12 months.
“All of our love, support, thoughts and prayers continue to be with Diogo and André’s families, friends and all those whose lives were touched by them. Forever in our hearts, forever our number 20.”
In a separate post the club described Jota as “our lad from Portugal” and shared an almost eight‑minute memorial video compiling his career highlights, goals, fan reactions, interviews, floral tributes and footage of a “Forever 20” statue erected in his honour.
The clip and the club’s posts drew thousands of replies from supporters expressing grief, love and gratitude, many using #YNWA and “Forever 20”.
The Premier League also marked the anniversary, tweeting, “One year ago, football lost Diogo Jota and his brother Andre. The special memories Diogo made in the Premier League and Portuguese football will forever be cherished by the millions of fans around the world he inspired.”
