Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, has reiterated its commitment to a full, impartial investigation into allegations of misconduct by recently passed-out personnel.
In a statement signed on Friday by Major Ibrahim Yahaya, Assistant Director Army Public Relations, the command claimed it has not received any formal complaint or credible evidence linking its troops to a rape allegation now circulating on social media.
The statement noted that the Board of Inquiry it earlier constituted “is ongoing and will leave no stone unturned,” and warned that any personnel found culpable “will be dealt with in accordance with the Armed Forces Act and other extant laws.”
On the specific allegation involving the Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, the statement said, “At this time, Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo has not received any formal complaint, medical report, or credible evidence from any alleged victim, witness, or the University Management to substantiate the claim of rape by our personnel.”
The command described the social-media circulation of the allegation as “unconfirmed and potentially misleading,” and urged restraint to avoid prejudicing the ongoing inquiry or inflaming tensions.
Major Yahaya appealed directly to any victims or eyewitnesses to come forward, “You are kindly requested to come forward and present your evidence directly and confidentially to the Board of Inquiry at the Headquarters, Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, or through the Army Public Relations Office.
“Your identity and safety will be protected in line with military and legal procedures.”
The statement also called on the media, students’ bodies, university management and the public to refrain from spreading unverified information, saying “sensationalism and disinformation only hinder the search for truth and can cause unnecessary panic among students and host communities.”
Depot Nigerian Army said it remains committed to civil‑military cooperation, the protection of students, and the upholding of human rights, and promised further updates as the investigation progresses.
