Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, a key PDP leader, proclaimed at a party executive meeting that the gathering will deliver state assembly members, House of Reps, senators, governors, and “ultimately Nigeria’s next president.”
The bold forecast arrives amid PDP’s factional infighting and unity pushes with groups like the ADC to form a strong opposition against the ruling APC ahead of 2027 polls, Dailyeconomy reports.
Meanwhile, in a statement sent to correspondent, Makinde balanced politics with governance stressing, “What an action-packed last two weeks it has been 24 hours is a long time in politics.”
He stressed economic hardships, vowing to clear all pensions and gratuities by next year: “We are on track to clear all outstanding pensions and gratuities by the end of our tenure next year and hand over a clean slate.”
Updates included a Bower’s Tower concession for tourism upgrades, roads rehab, and the upcoming International Tourism Summit Oyo State 2026 (May 12-14).
Agribusiness saw three new investors in dairy, soybean, and cassava, plus Fasola Livestock gains.
Makinde touted “Omituntun 3.0” as real progress, “It is not theory. It is something you can see.”
He praised public rejection of religious politics for 2027.
“Competence over religion, competence and commitment to the future of Oyo State will remain front and centre.”
Nationally, he warned against a one-party state stressing, “A functioning democracy requires a strong and credible opposition, We have come too far to lose our way now, and we will not.”
