The Oyo State Government has on Monday begun demolishing a suspected kidnappers’ hideout in the Lakoun community along Ayegun-Olojuoro Road in Ibadan, a structure police say was used to hold Olaide Adegoke John‑Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power Chief Adebayo Adelabu and her 12‑year‑old twin sons after their abduction on June 3.
Video circulating from the site shows heavy machinery flattening the single‑storey building following a high‑powered security assessment led by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Oluwagbemiga Abimbola, which took place on Sunday.
Police and state officials said the demolition followed a rescue operation on June 6 that freed the three victims and led to multiple arrests.
“We carried out a thorough security assessment of the location and deemed it a continuing threat to community safety,” Commissioner Abimbola said, explaining the decision to demolish the structure.
Dailyeconomy gathered that two members of the syndicate were shot dead during the rescue, while four suspects were arrested and paraded at the State Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan on Sunday.
Police urged residents to remain vigilant and to report anyone suspected of being connected to the gang.
Police said investigations are ongoing and asked anyone with information about fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate to contact the command.
