Video: Putin pledges continued Russian assistance to Iran amid US blockade pressure

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Moscow will continue providing Iran with “necessary assistance” and essential goods as Tehran confronts growing pressure from the United States, including restrictions on maritime trade linked to the Strait of Hormuz.
Putin made the remarks during talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, according to Iranian and international reports.
“We admire the courage of Iranians in this war,” Putin was quoted as saying during the meeting.
The Russian leader added that Moscow was working to support Tehran through the difficult period, saying, “We are trying to provide you with the necessary assistance.
“We have discussed this and will provide you with the necessary goods,” Putin said, in remarks that underline Russia’s commitment to maintaining supplies to Iran despite US restrictions.
Pezeshkian thanked Putin for Russia’s position during Iran’s confrontation with Washington and for Moscow’s continued cooperation with Tehran.
The comments came amid an escalating US-Iran conflict that has seen pressure placed on Iranian ports and trade routes, while tensions around the Strait of Hormuz remain high.
Moscow and Tehran have increasingly relied on alternative supply channels, including routes through the Caspian Sea, to reduce exposure to Western-controlled maritime chokepoints.
Russia’s assistance to Iran has reportedly included intelligence support, drone-related components and other supplies moved through regional trade networks.
The Caspian corridor has also become strategically important for both countries, allowing them to sustain economic ties and advance alternative North-South transport routes outside traditional Western-backed shipping channels.
