Video: Tinubu hails APC primaries as proof of “internal democracy,” praises orderly conduct

President Bola Tinubu has described the nationwide conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2026 primaries as a strong demonstration of internal democracy, saying the exercise has further deepened the party’s democratic process.
Tinubu made the remarks after participating in the APC presidential primary at Ikoyi‑Obalende Ward L2 in Lagos on Saturday.
He arrived with his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, and was received at the venue by Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu, Lagos APC Chairman Pastor Conerlius Ojelabi, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Dr Jumoke Oduwole, former Minister of Finance Wale Edun, and other party leaders.
“This is a demonstration of internal democracy, and it has been going on very well according to plan. This is grassroots politics where every member of the party has the right to participate,” Tinubu said, adding, “It shows that we have internal democracy and it’s peaceful and well organised.”
Commenting on the wider conduct of the primaries across Nigeria, the president praised governors and party officials for their roles in the process.
“I am very satisfied that Governors have done well in their various states, from the ward congresses to Local Government congresses to the delegate accreditation, validation, membership registration and the certification of the electoral process. It has been done very well, and with this, you could rate democracy at a high level,” he said.
Tinubu also commended electoral officials, party leaders and security agencies for helping to ensure the exercise was peaceful and credible.
He reiterated the APC’s commitment to transparent and inclusive processes that allow grassroots members to freely choose leaders, describing grassroots involvement as “the foundation for sustainable democratic development.”
The president reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to democratic ideals, good governance and policies to improve Nigerians’ welfare while strengthening political stability nationwide.
