President Donald Trump has claimed he prefers diplomacy over military action against Iran.
Speaking on board Air Force One, Trump said, “I’m not looking to kill people. I’d rather make a deal.”
He said new talks with Tehran will begin the next day, casting the negotiations as a possible “historic” peace breakthrough while warning that the U.S. is ready to escalate if the talks collapse.
Speaking in the air, Trump said he sees a good chance of an agreement and argued that a negotiated settlement is the better path, even as he kept military pressure on the table.
The remarks came amid reports that several Middle East allies are also pushing for a diplomatic solution rather than a wider conflict.
Trump’s comments signaled a mix of optimism and caution, with the president framing the talks as a chance to avoid more violence while making clear that Washington will not rule out force if diplomacy fails.
