Iran claims no US talks underway as Trump predicts deal

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei has said Tehran is “not currently” holding talks with the United States, even as U.S. President Donald Trump insists an agreement with Iran is “imminent” and that negotiations will begin on Monday.
Baghaei also said discussions with Oman are focused on a new Hormuz route with “entry and exit lanes,” while stressing that Tehran has “no plans to host or send delegations during these days.”
The remarks came as Iran’s Foreign Ministry called for “immediate and effective action” by the international community to end what it described as Israel’s impunity over crimes against Palestinians.
The statement was released as Iran marked the second anniversary of the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Tehran links statement to Gaza
Iran’s Fars and IRNA reports said the Foreign Ministry urged global and Muslim countries to act against the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, accusing Israel of continued attacks and demolitions.
The reports said the statement referenced Haniyeh’s killing and repeated Iran’s line that Israel should be held accountable for what Tehran described as “genocidal” crimes.
On the ground, reports from the West Bank said Israeli forces demolished property in Beit Dajan and Kafr Malek, carried out raids in several towns and camps, and detained Palestinians in multiple areas.
Separately, Iranian officials said discussions with Oman over the Strait of Hormuz are in their final stages, but Baghaei stressed the talks are about a navigation route, not a broader U.S.-Iran political deal.
“This is neither the northern route nor the southern route,” he was quoted as saying, adding that the arrangement would respect “the sovereignty of both nations.”
