United States President Donald Trump has expressed skepticism about the circumstances surrounding a controversial U.S. strike on a children’s school in Minab, Iran, stating that a conclusive determination may never be possible and raising the possibility that images of the aftermath were artificially generated.

In remarks that have drawn criticism, Trump responded to questions about the February 28, 2026, attack on the Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School in Minab, Hormozgan province.

The strike, which occurred on the first day of the U.S.-Israeli military operations against Iran, killed at least 156 people, including around 120 schoolchildren, according to reports and Iranian officials.

The strike has been attributed to U.S. forces, with some citing Tomahawk missiles.

“I don’t think anybody’s gonna ever be able to say what happened there.

“It is also possible that those images that you have are AI-generated. I don’t think there can be a conclusive report,” Trump said.

However, U.S. internal probes reportedly indicated likely American involvement, but the administration has emphasised the challenges of wartime operations and the fog of war.

Meanwhile, Trump has previously described such events as tragic mistakes, noting that “war is nasty” and “mistakes are made.”
