At a protest held in the nation’s capital, self-acclaimed social media police, VeryDarkMan has criticised the federal government’s handling of insecurity.

Speaking at the protest on Thursday, VDM singled out the Ministry of Defence’s yearly budget and what he described as its failure to protect citizens from widespread banditry.

“Ministry of defence get a budget of 3.16 trillion Naira every year, they have failed to protect us, bandits have taken over Nigeria, bandits have taken over our farmlands, abducting our children and women,” VeryDarkMan told protesters in Abuja, arguing that high defence spending has not translated into improved security for rural communities.

He also invoked remarks by Islamic cleric Sheikh Gumi to press the government on alleged inaction against known perpetrators.

“Sheikh Gumi once said that the government knows the kidnappers and terrorists. If that is not true, why are they not going after them?” VeryDarkMan asked, urging Nigerians to keep the memory of recent abductions alive.

“We must never forget our kidnapped Oyo school children and teachers,” he added.

Speaking to supporters, VeryDarkMan said voters can hold leaders accountable at the ballot box.

“If Nigerians can vote out President Tinubu, they can vote out any sitting president in the future,” he noted, linking electoral power to demands for better security.

The protest drew civil society members and residents affected by kidnappings and bandit attacks.
