Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, well known as Davido, has turned his FIFA World Cup countdown performance on Wednesday into a public plea for action over the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State.
In a backstage clip that went viral, Davido was seen wearing a customised black leather jacket decorated with green circular buttons.
Each button bore the name of a pupil or teacher taken by armed bandits; those still in captivity were written in white, while names of victims who died during the incident were written in red.
He paired the jacket with a white T‑shirt reading “NIGERIA,” and the jacket’s back was emblazoned with “BRING THEM HOME.”
Moments before taking the stage, the singer addressed the crisis directly and appealed for faster government intervention.
“Peace and love everywhere. May God be with the families of the abducted and the ones who have been killed,” Davido said.
“They still haven’t been rescued, we’re praying to God every day. We’re also praying to God that the government hastens, and you know. My country is going through a lot. We represent everywhere we go.”
The artist’s choice to spotlight the kidnappings during a high‑profile international lead‑up event drew widespread attention on social media and renewed calls from fans and rights groups for improved security and a swift resolution for the victims and their families.
