Why Nigerian goalkeeper, Nwabali steps away from football

Super Eagles star, Stanley Nwabali mutually parted ways with South Africa football club, Chippa United earlier this year not due to transfer offers or contract disputes, but after suffering the profound grief of losing his grandmother, father, and mother within a short two-month period around late 2024 to early 2025.

Facing overwhelming emotional toll that made continuing at a professional level unsustainable, Nwabali reportedly confided in Super Eagles teammates like Wilfred Ndidi about wanting to quit entirely, sought professional mental health support during his break.

He has now returned to Chippa United following mutual understanding and recovery time, with the club supporting his well-being.

It was gathered that during his recovering period both club and national team coach Eric Chelle back and give him full support.
