Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has thanked the United States for briefing Kyiv on a series of recent high-level meetings in Moscow, praising what he described as the “necessary tone” in Washington’s engagement with Russia.

In an address on Friday, Zelenskyy said Ukraine remained in close contact with US officials before and after the Moscow discussions, while welcoming coordination around diplomatic efforts to end Russia’s war.

“Today, we received information from the American side about the meetings in Moscow that took place the other day.

“There was a series of meetings. We spoke before the meetings, and we have spoken again now with the Americans,” Zelenskyy said.

He added, “Thank you for the information – and for the necessary tone of the conversation with Russia.”

Zelenskyy said Kyiv valued its alignment with Washington on what he called a realistic approach to securing peace, insisting that Moscow must halt its invasion and that the conditions for a settlement must be put in place.

“We value the alignment of steps and the fact that America is advancing a realistic vision of what needs to be done and what must be achieved,” he said.

“Russia must end its war, and all the necessary conditions must be created to make that happen.”

The Ukrainian leader did not disclose details of the US-Russia meetings.

However, his remarks come as the Trump administration continues mediation efforts aimed at reviving talks over the war, with recent reports of US officials travelling to Moscow amid uncertainty over proposed Ukraine-Russia negotiations involving American representatives.
