Army buries General Braimah, other fallen heroes with full military honours

Late Brigadier General Omo Braimah, Captain Azubuike Michael Esimai, and several other gallant soldiers were laid to rest on Wednesday with full military honours.

The event, attended by top dignitaries including Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, Minister of Defence General Christopher Musa (Rtd), Chief of Defence Staff, and Chief of Army Staff, highlighted the nation’s grief and gratitude for the fallen heroes’ sacrifices in defending Nigeria’s peace and security.

A statement from the Nigerian Army described the burial as “a solemn and emotionally charged ceremony,” noting that the soldiers “paid the supreme price in the line of duty.”

It emphasised their “selfless service and unwavering commitment to the defence of the nation,” serving as “a poignant reminder of the heavy price paid daily by members of the Armed Forces to safeguard the peace, unity and security of Nigeria.”

Tributes from the leaders portrayed the deceased as “true patriots who stood firm in the face of danger and made the ultimate sacrifice so that others might live in safety.”

The Army statement added that “their bravery and sense of duty will continue to inspire generations and remain etched in the nation’s history.”

Prayers were offered for the souls of the departed, with citations read to their next of kin amid visible sorrow from grieving families.

The statement concluded, “As the nation mourns these heroes, it is reminded that the freedom and stability enjoyed today come at a profound cost, paid by brave men who placed duty above self and gave everything in service to their fatherland.”
