Arsenal secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, overturning an early deficit to maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season.
Chelsea struck first in just the second minute when Morgan Rogers finished smartly, assisted by Jorrel Hato, to silence the home crowd and hand the visitors an early advantage.
Arsenal responded strongly, though a potential equaliser from Riccardo Calafiori was ruled out by VAR for offside.
The Gunners levelled in the 25th minute through Kai Havertz, who converted after a contribution from Declan Rice.
The sides went into half-time locked at 1-1 following a competitive opening period.
Just five minutes into the second half, Arsenal took the lead.
Christos Tzolis drove forward on the left and delivered a cross; Havertz dummied the ball cleverly, allowing captain Martin Ødegaard to slam home an emphatic finish past Emiliano Martínez.
Arsenal controlled much of the remainder of the contest, creating the better chances overall (with superior expected goals), while Chelsea pushed late.
David Raya produced a crucial late save to deny Estevão a spectacular equaliser as the hosts held firm through four minutes of added time.
The result leaves Arsenal among the early pace-setters with a flawless record, while Chelsea suffer their first defeat under Xabi Alonso.
The win continues Arsenal’s strong form under Mikel Arteta against their London rivals.
