Chelsea FC has confirmed that 18-year-old winger Jesse Derry has been taken to hospital as a precaution following a first-half head injury during their Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest on Monday.
In an official club statement, Chelsea wrote, “Jesse Derry has been taken to hospital as a precaution following his first-half substitution during today’s #PL game against Nottingham Forest. Jesse is conscious, talking and undergoing precautionary checks.
“We wish him a speedy recovery and thank the medical staff for their swift response.”
Derry, making his first Premier League start, was stretchered off after a clash of heads with Forest defender Zach Abbott.
The incident caused a 10-minute stoppage, with both teams utilising concussion substitutions in line with league protocols.
Chelsea ultimately fell 3-1, but the focus post-match shifted to Derry’s wellbeing, with the club praising the swift response from medical staff.
