Coventry City has agreed a permanent deal to sign Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest, with the player currently undergoing his medical before finalising the move.
Coventry and Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement for Awoniyi’s transfer on a permanent basis.
The striker is now reportedly completing his medical examination, the final step before the deal is officially completed and announced.
The move will add a new forward option to Frank Lampard’s squad as Coventry prepare for life back in the Premier League.
Frank Lampard, who took charge at Coventry in late 2024, guided the club to the Championship title and Premier League promotion in the 2025/26 season, ending a 25-year top-flight absence.
Following that success, Lampard recently extended his contract with Coventry until 2029, underlining the club’s long-term ambition.
Awoniyi becomes another Nigerian in Lampard’s squad, joining midfielder Frank Onyeka, who was previously signed by the manager during his Coventry rebuild.
Awoniyi arrives as a proven Championship and Premier League-level striker, expected to compete for a starting role in Coventry’s attack.
His arrival addresses Coventry’s need for additional firepower as they return to England’s top division after a quarter-century away.
Once the medical is successfully completed, Coventry are expected to formally announce Awoniyi’s signing and reveal the length of his contract.
