Generation of June 12 secured democracy, our generation must secure prosperity — Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians on Friday to build on the gains of democracy and deliver economic progress for all.

In his Democracy Day address, Tinubu said June 12 “occupies a sacred place in our national memory” and recalled the sacrifices of past pro-democracy figures.

He warned that “democracy is not perfect, but it is ours, and we must continue to defend and strengthen it.”

Highlighting security and economic reforms, the president noted his administration’s actions on recruitment and funding for defence and the power sector, and pledged to pursue policies so “democracy must be felt in the pocket.”

He also asked young Nigerians to “build here, code here, work here, and vote here.”

Tinubu closed by calling for unity and renewed purpose, “Let us move forward together—rejecting division, cynicism, and despair; embracing unity, hope, and confidence.”
