Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has expressed condolences to Venezuela after two powerful earthquakes struck the country’s west on June 24, 2026, killing at least 164 people and injuring more than 970.
“Deeply saddened by the earthquake in Venezuela. We extend our condolences to the Government and People of Venezuela, especially families of the victims, and wish a swift recovery to the injured,” Araghchi wrote on Thursday, adding that “I.R.Iran stands in solidarity with Venezuelans and is ready to offer full assistance.”
The tremors, measured at magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, struck near the towns of San Felipe and Yumare, causing widespread damage including collapsed buildings, and prompting Caracas to declare a national state of emergency.
Authorities continue search-and-rescue operations as medical services cope with the surge of injured.
