Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has dismissed reports that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan had been named the presidential candidate of the Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a “bizarre comedy” engineered by unregistered actors.
“This is some kind of bizarre comedy taken too far by supposedly grown adults and some names that were actually in the corridors of power at some point in this country,” Keyamo wrote on Sunday.
“Giving a whole Presidential ticket to an ex-President and statesman by proxy and by a bunch of people not even registered on INEC’s website. And they don’t give a hoot dragging such a revered figure into their charade that is certainly a journey to nowhere. Quite sad.”
Keyamo urged President Jonathan to act swiftly to protect his reputation, warning that a failure to do so could revive memories of the “clueless” campaign that led to his historic electoral defeat.
“For the sake of his global image, President Goodluck Jonathan must IMMEDIATELY issue a strong ‘no, thank you’ statement, lest Nigerians begin to recall the ‘clueless’ campaign that got him out of power – first sitting President to be so ousted,” he added on X.
Keyamo’s remarks come amid continuing internal disputes within the PDP, where rival factions have in recent months presented competing candidates and conflicting lists to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Turaki-led group has not been listed as an officially registered faction on INEC’s public portal.
