The Lagos State Government (LASG) has declared an emergency closure of the outbound lane of Eko Bridge toward Lagos Island, starting Tuesday, May 12, 2026, to conduct critical safety investigations and repairs.

In a statement obtained Sunday and signed by Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, the government emphasised public safety as the top priority.

The closure affects the section between Apongbon and Ijora-Olopa.

Motorists are urged to reroute via the Third Mainland Bridge for access to their destinations, while the inward Lagos Island carriageway will remain open.

“The Lagos State Government has announced the emergency closure of Eko Bridge (outbound to Lagos Island) for safety investigations and repairs. The closure will commence on Tuesday, 12th May, 2026,” the statement added.

To ease the impact, LASG assured that “adequate traffic and security personnel will be deployed along alternative routes to guide motorists and ensure smooth traffic flow.”

Commuters are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

“In view of the closure between Apongbon and IjoraOlopa, members of the motoring public are advised to use the Third Mainland Bridge to access their desired destinations. The inward Lagos Island carriageway will remain open to motorists,” it further noted.
