Maiduguri flood: NNPCL delivers relief materials to victims

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has joined the relief efforts for flood victims in Maiduguri, Borno State, following catastrophic flooding that displaced residents.
The flooding was triggered by the overflow of the Alau Dam, which has submerged large parts of the city, leading to significant property damage and disruption of daily life.
The relief items were according to a statement by NNPCL on Tuesday delivered during a consolation visit paid to the Borno State Government on Tuesday.
Materials which were delivered to the affected communities during the sympathy visit through the NNPC Foundation, Corporate Social Responsibility arm, were food, toiletries and bedding.
The remarks reads, “The NNPC Ltd., through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm, NNPC Foundation, has donated relief items to the recent flood victims in Borno State.
“During a condolence visit paid to the Borno State Government on Tuesday, the Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Mele Kyari, represented by the Executive Vice President, Business Services, Mr Danladi Inuwa conveyed the Company’s heartfelt message to the Government and people of the state over the disaster.
“Materials provided to the affected communities during the visit include essential supplies such as food, toiletries, bedding and other household items.”
Meanwhile, the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum commenced the distribution of essential relief items on Monday, September 16 at Bakasi camp.
Each affected household reportedly received a 25kg bag of rice, a carton of pasta, and N10,000 in cash.
Zulum expressed concerns about the growing number of people in camps and announced plans for a comprehensive assessment to guide future interventions.
Also, the Nigerian Air Force has begun airlifting relief supplies, including 300 bags of rice and medical aid, to assist those affected.
Additionally, the National Emergency Management Agency
is providing shelters and mobile water purification units to ensure clean drinking water for displaced families.
Furthermore, President Bola Tinubu on Monday declared the immediate establishment of a Disaster Relief Fund with an initial seed capital from the Federal Government to support in alleviating the impact of the flood that occurred in the State, as reported by Dailyeconomy on Monday, September 16.
