The Nigerian Insurers Association has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, Rotimi Edu, describing him as a towering figure in Nigeria’s insurance industry.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of NIA, Kunle Ahmed, the association said the late Edu was an exceptional leader, accomplished legal practitioner and visionary insurance professional whose contributions to the growth and development of the insurance sector remained remarkable.

The association noted that Edu dedicated decades of his professional career to advancing insurance practice, industry integration and regulatory development in Nigeria.

According to the statement, Edu’s commitment to professionalism and ethical standards distinguished him as one of the most respected figures in the insurance ecosystem.

NIA stated that during his tenure as the 21st President of NCRIB, he championed initiatives that strengthened collaboration between underwriters and insurance brokers, helping to foster unity within the industry.

“His passing leaves a massive vacuum that will be deeply felt across the entire financial services sector,” the statement read.

The association further described Edu as a man of strategic insight who consistently advocated reforms aimed at aligning the insurance industry with modern economic realities.

It added that as a member of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Edu contributed significantly to policy and industry discussions through his experience and leadership.

The NIA extended condolences to the President and Governing Board of NCRIB, the insurance brokerage community, his family, friends and professional associates.

While mourning what it described as a monumental loss, the association said the late insurance leader left behind an enduring legacy of integrity, leadership and institutional progress that would continue to inspire future generations in the industry.

The association prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and for strength for his family and the insurance community to bear the loss.
