The National Pension Commission has launched a free healthcare initiative known as PenCare for retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), targeting pensioners with low monthly earnings.
In a statement today, the Commission said the pilot phase of the programme is open to retirees who are at least 60 years old and receive monthly pensions of not more than ₦70,000 from a Pension Fund Administrator (PFA).
According to PenCom, registration for the initiative has commenced and will accommodate up to 30,000 eligible retirees on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Commission urged interested pensioners to register by scanning the designated barcode published in newspapers or by visiting the official PenCom website and the websites of participating PFAs.
PenCom explained that PenCare is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project designed to preserve the dignity and well-being of retirees by reducing the burden of medical expenses.
The pension regulator reiterated its commitment to improving the welfare of retirees through initiatives that enhance access to healthcare and financial security in retirement.
The statement added that PenCare reflects the Commission’s resolve to prioritise the health needs of pensioners across the country.
